Driver Education-YouthEnrichmentOffered throughout the school year and summer by Brainerd Public Schools Community Education (TO REGISTER FOR THE ONLINE DRIVER ED CLASS - CLICK HERE!) Taught by college-trained Department of Education certified instructors. Let our Brainerd teachers help you meet the State Driver Education requirements! To complete the classroom portion of the program DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, students will meet three times a week; Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for three hours each day. Students registered for one of our SUMMER SESSIONS will meet five times a week; Monday through Friday for three hours each day. Attendance each day is mandatory to gain the 30 hours of classroom training which is required by state law! Students must be 14 years old and provide proper identification specified in the Minnesota Driver’s Manual. The next four sessions will be on the simulator. All simulator classes are 2 hours. *Missed simulation classes result in the need for extra driving time to meet state requirements. If one simulator class is missed, the student must pay for 1/2 hour of extra on-street driving at the cost of $30 in order to meet the requirements. **Students will be allowed to register for behind the wheel dates at the end of simulation or drive at a later date. After completing 30 hours of classroom, and eight hours of simulation, four hours of behind the wheel are required. The behind the wheel dates are made by appointment (an instructor will call). Students will drive four hours with a licensed instructor. These will be scheduled usually two times, for two hours each time. Most people will be done driving 3-6 weeks after simulation unless they choose to wait. Students will complete the entire course within one year of their first classroom session. A $65 fee will be assessed to those waiting longer than a year. Anyone waiting 18 months or longer will pay $90 and $5 per month thereafter. Students who cancel or wish to move to another section with less than seven business days notice, prior to the class start date will forfeit $125 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning classroom they will forfeit $125 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning simulation, $225 will be forfeited. To ensure that this driver's education program is safe and appropriate, please indicate on the registration form whether the student has any special needs or requires any accommodations to be successful in this program. Class size is limited, so register early! Note Policy Change! In order to be reimbursed for canceling a class or to be moved to another section, you must notify the Community Education office at least seven business days prior to the start of class. Students who don't show up for scheduled behind the wheel driving appointments will be charged $40. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the driving is scheduled. Any remaining balance or additional charges incurred after the first date of the class must be paid by cash or credit card; no checks will be accepted. We offer a 90 minute parent course free of charge if your child is enrolled in our Driver Education program. This parent class is for the "Primary Driving Supervisor". Click here for parent class registration. If your student is NOT enrolled in our Driver Education program - the cost of the class is $25. This agreement/contract constitutes an agreement/contract between the program and the student/parent and no verbal statements or promises will be recognized.Summer 2026 -

Early Childhood ScreeningStudents starting Kindergarten in Fall 2026 should call to schedule an early childhood screening in April. 218-454-5430 The Brainerd Public School system regularly offers early childhood screening clinics during the school year for all children between the ages of 3 and 5 years. The state of Minnesota recommends this at age 3 and requires this for kindergarten entrance. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is learning and growing. The screening includes a developmental assessment, social emotional questionnaire, vision and hearing tests, height and weight measurement and an immunization and health history review. The purpose of the FREE screening is to identify children who may need additional time and experiences to be ready for school. The sooner we get started, the more likely your child will begin school with the necessary skills to succeed. Here’s what screening does for you: Helps you find out how your child is doing and answers parenting questions Connects you to community services Registers your child for kindergarten Appointments are available throughout the school year. Three reasons to screen at age 3: 1.Screening can assist your child to be ready for school. 2.Any health or developmental concerns can be found earlier and help can be provided sooner. 3.Because screening is free, it's easy and it's good for your child =================================================================== REQUIRED FORMS for screening **You also need to provide copies of your child's Birth Certificate and current Immunization Record Forms can be emailed to: jennifer.lindholm@isd181.org =================================================================== Want to help your child know what to expect during their Hearing & Vision Screening?
